Churachandpur College, Churachandpur district, which was affiliated to Manipur University, Imphal and is an NAAC ( B) Accredited College, has been granted Autonomous Status by the University Grant Commission in its letter dated January 19, 2024, to the Registrar, Manipur University .
   
In the letter to the Registrar, MU, with the subject said that “Conferments of Autonomous Status to Churachandpur College, near District Hospital, Tipaimukh Road Junction, Churachandpur, Manipur affiliated to Manipur University”, the Deputy Secretary of UGC, Gopi Chand Merugu stated that the Commission, on its meeting held on January 16, 2024, had approved  the recommendation of the Standing committee on Autonomous College to confer the same to the Churachandpur College.
     
The UGC said that Autonomous Status is for a period of five years from the academic year 2024-25 to 2028-29 as per clause 7.4 of UGC (conferments of Autonomous Status upon colleges and measures for maintenance of standards in Autonomous Colleges) regulation 2023 .
   
Meanwhile, the KSO-GHQ,  in an acknowledgement note, said that “they express their heartfelt gratitude to the UGC for the decision to confer Autonomous Status to Churachandpur College which reflect the collage commitment to education excellence  and it’s potential to contribute significantly to the higher education landscape in Churachandpur’’.
 
The KSO-GHQ, while thanking the UGC for the conferments, also said that it’s a milestone for the collage and expressed its hope that the conference of Autonomous Status will bring in all-round development in the field of education and expressed their confidence in the College’s administration  to work out the responsibility that was place on to them by the UGC.
