In the wake of COVID-19 pandemic that had affected regular class countrywide, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said class 10 and 12 students can appear for improvement papers to improve their marks.
The CBSE has taken the decision under the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.
Earlier, if students wished to improve their marks, they had to wait for one complete year and appear in the exam with the next batch. However, under the new CBSE rule, students can appear for improvement exams within the same academic year.
According to CBSE, class 10 and 12 students will be given an opportunity to improve their performance in only one subject in the Compartment Exams, which will be conducted immediately after the main examination. Better of the two marks obtained in the subject will be considered for declaration of results.
Candidates who will improve their performance will be issued combined mark sheet, the central board added.
“This permission will be made available to the candidates appearing in 2021 examination and if they wish to improve their performance in any one subject they may again apply in the Compartment Examination for appearing to improve their performance,” CBSE said in a statement.
However, if a student wishes to improve in more than two subjects he/she need to appear in the examination as per the old rules.
CBSE Class 10 and 12 board exams 2021 are scheduled to take place between May 4-June 8.
