Condemning the inaction by the concerned authorities against alleged irregularities in the engineering wing of the education department, the Apunba Ireipak Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) and the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) announced on Monday that the department will be locked down.
AIMS and DESAM had revealed through the media on July 20 the irregularities found in the engineering wing of the education department regarding the construction of DM University and Heirok Engineering College, stated a release signed by AIMS president Khumujam Romen.
It stated that they even urged all authorities concerned to take up strict action against those who are involved in the case but the state government has remained silent till date. Therefore, the student body has resolved to lock down the department, it added.
Stating the alleged irregularities, AIMS said the architectural design of the said institutes was drawn by the staff of the wing. However, the department claimed that it was outsourced to one of the private firms, it added.
They learned about such irregularities when they went to enquire about the developmental activities being taken up by the wing, it stated, adding this was not the first time such irregularities have occurred.
Many such similar cases have happened before and the engineering wing of the education department has become a place of corruption and irregularities, the DESAM and AIMS stated. They appealed to take immediate action to remove such irregularities from the department.
