The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Monday announced the closure of its General OPD and concerned departments of the hospital till July 25 after an attendant of a department of the hospital was tested COVID-19 positive on Sunday.
The development comes three days after a postgraduate (PG) doctor of RIMS tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. The PG doctor was not assigned for Covid-related duties at the institute. Following the development, the department of Physiotherapy and Biochemistry of RIMS have been closed down.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 positive tally in the state rose to 1,925 on Monday as 14 more people tested positive for the disease. The total cases included 1,320 recovered cases and 605 active cases so far.
A release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated that the fresh cases included 12 from Thoubal and one each from Imphal West and Kamjong. “Ten persons including a technician working at RIMS belonging to Thoubal district do not have travel history and the rest are returnees from other states,” it said.
Meanwhile, as many as 85 more patients have been discharged after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test on Monday. The recovery rate has improved to 68.57 per cent, it stated. It also said that the recovery rates in the districts of Noney, Pherzawl and Tengnoupal have reached 100 per cent.
The locals of Bishnupur have been demanding resumption of the normal functioning of the District Hospital, Bishnupur.
An office memorandum signed by the deputy commissioner stated that the chief medical officer of Bishnupur will provide requisite materials to accommodate at least 10 patients while waiting for supply from the state government.
The chief medical officer will also issue roster duty for doctors, nurses and other staff to be stationed at the new COVID Care Centre, it added.
The office memorandum also mentioned that the superintendent of police, Bishnupur should provide security personnel to guard the new COVID Care Centre. It further mentioned that the executive engineer of PWD, Bishnupur to conduct repair and construction of the new COVID Care Centre, including toilets and bathrooms if required and the executive engineer of PHED to provide potable water.
The deputy general manager of the MSPDCL, Bishnupur will ensure proper lighting and the executive officer of the Bishnupur Municipal Council will ensure regular disinfection and waste generated at the new COVID Care Centre, it mentioned.
