Amid the surge in COVID-19 positive cases in some countries, Manipur Health Minister Sapam Ranjan on Friday continued to called on the people of Manipur to start following Covid appropriate behaviour strictly as a precautionary measure.

As of today, Manipur has zero COVID-19 positive cases. However, it is high time to stay alert as some deadly variants of the virus are spreading fast in some countries such as China, Brazil, Japan and South Korea, said Ranjan during an emergency press conference held at the Health Directorate in Imphal.

"There is no need to panic. We just want the public to take precautionary measures and follow the SoP and the Covid guidelines like in the past," he said.

Manipur had overcome the past waves of the COVID-19 with good cooperation from the public, he said, adding, "The government still needs the same old cooperation as usual. Please do start following the SoP."

The minister also appealed to the public to avoid mass gathering and to minimise any sorts of gatherings.

Concerning the low vaccination rate in Manipur which is only 62.54 per cent for first dose, 54.09 per cent for second dose and 20.36 per cent for booster dose, Ranjan stressed the need to intensify and ramp up the vaccination drive, especially in the hill districts.

He explained that the largest vaccination drive taken up in the country by PM Modi in the past was the reason behind the successful Covid management in India which is being recognised globally.

Stating that the vaccination drive will be ramped up by coordinating with the ministry, Ranjan appealed to the general public to get themselves fully vaccinated to stay secure from Covid-19.

Talking on the action plan of the state government for any possible eventualities, he informed that the officials have started an exercise to fully activate all Covid centres, including PSA plans, ventilators, oxygen concentrators, beds and others by December 27 by giving their best level as instructed by the chief minister.

In case of detection of any positive cases, genome sequencing will be done for all, as per the guidelines of the ministry, he added.
