Manipur's COVID-19 death toll climbs to 83 as three more patients die

The cumulative number of COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur has reached 12,679 as 190 more people tested positive for the viral infection on Thursday.

Manipur's COVID-19 death toll reached 83 as three more patients died of the disease, while 190 more positive cases pushed the confirmed COVID-19 tally in the state to 12,679 on Thursday, official sources said.

The three COVID-19 victims are all males - one 85-year-old from Thoubal, 70-year-old from Imphal West and a 65-year-old from Kangpokpi district, the 5 pm bulletin from the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated on Thursday.

The new COVID-19 confirmed cases included 180 persons (111M, 69F) from the general population and 10 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), the release stated.

The positive cases from the general population are 50 from Imphal West, 36 from Imphal East, eight from Thoubal, two from Kangpokpi, 17 from Bishnupur, two from Kakching, one from Chandel, five from Senapati, 29 from Churachandpur, five from Ukhrul, 20 from Tamenglong, five from Noney, the release added.

A total of four persons are returnees while the rest are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the health department stated.

Meanwhile, the release stated that 115 more patients have been discharged. The cumulative number of recovered cases is 9,719 (General Population - 7,615 and Central Security Personnel - 2,104). The recovery rate is 76.65 per cent.

The total 12,679 positive cases in the state included - General Population - 10.190 and Central Security Personnel - 2,489. The number of active cases is 2877 (General Population 2495 and Central Security Personnel - 382), the release added.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has taken a pledge with the administrative secretaries and officials on CAB (Covid Appropriate Behaviours) after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched the Jan Andolan Campaign on Covid 19 from October and November and emphasised on CAB in New Normal - wear a mask, wash hands and follow physical distancing.

"If you were in contact with a positive person, isolate immediately. Contact Covid control room or CMO for testing. Together we can break the COVID chain," the health department added in a release.

In case of emergency, the public can also avail online teleconsultation by government doctors from home between 10 am and 3 pm every day except Sunday by downloading ‘eSanjeevaniOPD’ app at Google Play Store or by visiting the website ‘www.esanjeevani.opd.in’.
