Manipur: TDWJU extends aid to journalist under home isolation

The Thoubal District Working Journalists Union Soibam Binoy said the aid was extended keeping in mind the difficulties and risks faced by journalists in performing their duties for the public.

Thoubal District Working Journalists Union (TDWJU) on Sunday presented essential food items and medications to  Thokchom Jayanta  who is currently undergoing home isolation after testing positive for COVID-19.

A team of TDWJU led by its president Soibam Binoy visited the residence of Jayanta who works for Image TV and presented the aid which included face masks, sanitisers, IB Syrup, and multivitamin tablets, besides other food items.

Soibam Binoy stated the aid was extended keeping in mind the difficulties and risks faced by journalists in performing their duties for the public. It is unfortunate that a journalist got infected with the virus when the number of journalists in the state is rather less, he expressed, wishing the journalist a speedy recovery.

It may be mentioned here that besides being a member of All Manipur Working Journalists Association (AMWJU), Thokchom Jayanta is also the general secretary of Kakching District Journalist Association (KADJA).

Meanwhile, Lamding Educated Welfare Association (LEWA) donated face masks, hand sanitisers, and food packets for journalists working in various media houses of Thoubal district.

President of LEWA S Ojit handed over the said items to president of Thoubal District Working Journalists Union (TDWJU), Soibam Binoy in a simple ceremony held at Thoubal Mela Ground.

Speaking on the occasion, S Ojit said that journalists are also frontline warriors in the battle against COVID-19 pandemic, and even though there has been no fatality among the journalists in Manipur, there are reports of more than 180 journalists who had succumbed to the pandemic all across the country.

The aid was given as support to ease the difficulties faced by journalists in performing their duties, and also as a sign of appreciation and gratitude for the important role played by them in the battle against the dreaded coronavirus, he added.
