Manipur's COVID-19 death toll rose to 11 with the report of one more death due to the disease on Saturday. The state's tally surged to 3,635 as 169 more tested positive for Coronavirus, official sources said.
According to a release from the COVID-19 Common Control Room, a 63-year-old man from Imphal East district died due to COVID-19 on Saturday. He had no comorbid health conditions, it said.
Of the new positive cases, 75 persons, 33 males and 42 females, are from general population and 94 are Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel, the release stated.
Of the 75 general positive cases, 25 are from Imphal West, two from Thoubal, six from Chandel, 21 from Bishnupur, seven each from Imphal East and Noney, four from Churachandpur and three from Ukhrul, the release stated.
Only four from Noney out of the general positive cases are returnees from other states while the rest 71 are locals without any significant travel history, the release added.
Till date, 765 persons have been confirmed as locally transmitted non-returnee COVID-19 postive cases.
The cumulative number of positive cases in the state is 3,635, of which 2,840 are from general population and 795 are Central security personnel.
The new positive cases are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, Additional Director and spokesperson, Health Department, Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said.
Meanwhile, one person was discharged from JNIMS in the past 24 hours after finding COVID-19 free on RT PCR test. With it, the cumulative number of discharged cases and active cases is 1,927 and 1,697 respectively.
On Friday, Manipur reported its highest single-day spike of 249 new cases and two COVID-19 deaths.
