The People's Task Force for COVID-19 (PTFC) demanded the state government to conduct genome sequencing of more COVID-19 samples to ascertain if other variants are found in the state as 18 cases of Delta COVID-19 variant were already detected.
The PTFC stated in a release that there are reports of various variants of COVID-19 in many countries of the world. Recently, the presence of a new variant called ‘Delta variant’ in the state was declared by the chief minister. It came to know after conducting genome sequencing of 20 COVID-19 samples at Hyderabad in which 18 of them were found to be of Delta variant.
Getting a report of 18 samples of Delta variant COVID-19 is huge in a state like Manipur. The state government should not take it lightly and take initiative to send more samples for genome sequencing. It is high time to ascertain whether there is presence of other variants so that better medication and right treatment can be given to patients, it added.
The PTFC stated that a new hybrid of Coronavirus was found in India and the UK that was spread in Vietnam. But the country tackled it easily as there were only 6,396 positive cases with 47 deaths.
The main reason behind successful control of the pandemic in Vietnam is that they took precautionary measures at the right time, it pointed out.
In a state like Manipur where there is a population of just 30 lakh, 63,578 people were tested COVID-19 positive with 1,039 deaths so far.
The positive cases are getting higher in the state as no effective measures to control the spread of COVID-19 were taken in time and the SOPs are not followed sincerely, it added, making an appeal to the government to conduct genome sequencing of more COVID-19 samples at the earliest.
