The total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Manipur surged to 3,941 after 88 more persons, including 13 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel test positive for the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, official sources said.
According to a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room, the new cases from the general population include 55 from Imphal West, eight from Imphal East, two from Thoubal, four from Bisnhupur, three from Noney and one each from Senapati, Tamenglong and Kamjong. While only two cases are returnees from other states, the rest 73 cases are locals without any significant travel history, it stated.
The new COVID-19 patients are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures are in place continue, Additional director and spokesperson of the state health department Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang stated.
On Tuesday, the cumulative number of deaths increased to 12 after a 60-year-old man from Nongmeibung, Imphal East, succumbed to the virus at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS). He had co-orbid health conditions, it stated.
Meanwhile, 33 more persons were discharged in the last 24 hours after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test. With it, the total recovered and active cases in the state is 2,155 and 1,774 respectively. The recovery rate is 54.68 per cent, the release added.
