Maharashtra continues to lead in COVID-19 fatality in the country as its death toll surged to 48,876, followed by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu with 12,029 and 12,012 total deaths respectively.
The country’s total number of COVID-19 deaths reached 1,46,444, which is 1.45 per cent of the total caseload of 1,00,99,066 on Wednesday, the Union Health Ministry said.
According to the 8 am Health Ministry’s report, a total of 96,63,382 COVID-19 patients have recovered and the recovery rate climbed to 95.69 per cent. The total number of active cases rose to 2,89,240, which is 2.86 per cent of the total COVID-19 caseload in the country.
The country has tested 16,42,68,721 samples up to December 22, the Indian Council of Medical Research stated. On Tuesday alone, 10,98,164 samples were tested, the ICMR said.
Meanwhile, in Delhi, COVID-19 has claimed 10,329 lives till date as per the Health Ministry's data on Wednesday morning. The COVID-19 confirmed caseload in the national capital has reached 6,18,747, including 5,99,683 recoveries.
Union territory Dadar and Nagar Haveli has, so far, reported only two deaths due to COVID-19, the lowest toll in the country. Mizoram till date has reported seven COVID-19 deaths.
