India's Omicron tally rises to 171

Six new Omicron cases were detected in Delhi while Kerala reported four new cases on Monday.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday said in the Rajya Sabha that as many as 161 Omicron cases have so far been detected across the country.

On Monday, six new cases of the Omicron variant were detected in Delhi, taking the city's total Omicron tally to 28. Of these, 28 Omicron cases in the national capital, 12 cases have been discharged, sources said.

Kerala's Omicron tally also rose to 15 as four new cases were detected in the state on Monday, the state health minister's office said.

As per central and state official sources, Maharashtra has logged the highest number of omicron cases in India with 54 cases, followed by Delhi with 28 cases. The other Omicron cases included 20 in Telangana, 19 in Karnataka, 17 in Rajasthan, 15 in Kerala, 11 in Gujarat, four in West Bengal, and one each in Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh and Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, India's COVID-19 tally reached 3,47,46,8383 with the addition of  6,563 new COVID-19 cases, while the death toll mounted to 4,77,554 with 132 more fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry.
