India's COVID-19 death toll surges to 5,28,611 with 27 more fatalities

India logged 4,272 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country's tally to 4,45,83,360 while the death toll surged to 5,28,611 with 27 more fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.

The number of active cases dropped to 40,750 from Wednesday's 40,979. Active cases constitute 0.9 per cent of the country's total positive cases, the Health Ministry said.

India also recorded 4,474  new COVID-19 recoveries in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative number of recovered cases to 4,40,13,999 and the recovery rate is 98.72 per cent as on Thursday.

As many as 89,47,33,779 COVID-19 tests have so far been conducted in India, including 3,16,916 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, as per the Health Ministry.

While the weekly positivity rate in the country was recorded at 1.51 per cent, the daily positivity rate was reported to be 1.35 per cent, the ministry added.

Meanwhile, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has reached 2,18,17,94,748, including 20,88,63,915 precaution doses.
