India’s total COVID-19 cases surged to 35,42,733 on Sunday with the highest single-day record of 78,761 cases, according to the Union Health Ministry data.
The death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 63,498 with 948 more succumbing to the disease while that of active cases is 7,65,302 and recoveries 27,13,933, according to the data recorded till 8 am.
As the recovery rate increased to 76.61 per cent, the COVID-19 case fatality rate declined further to 1.79 per cent.
According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 4,14,61,636 samples have been tested up to August 29 with 10,55,027 samples being tested on Saturday, the highest number of COVID-19 test conducted in a single day so far. The WHO has advised that a country needs 140 tests/day/ million population. All State/UTs in the country have crossed the advised number of tests, the ministry said in a release.
Meanwhile, in Manipur, the COVID-19 confirmed tally rose to 5843, active cases, 1759, recovery cases 4057 and death toll 27 as on Saturday, according to a release from the COVID-19 Common Control Room.
