India reports new spike of 2,64,202 COVID-19 positive cases; Omicron cases rise to 5,753

The country’s confirmed caseload reached 3,63,17,927 and the active caseload touched 12,72,073, while the death toll climbed to 4,85,035 and the total recoveries reached 3,48,24,706.

India on Friday reported  2,64,202 new COVID-19 positive cases, including 5,753 Omicron cases, while the disease claimed 380 more lives, to the according to the latest update by the Union Health Ministry.

The country’s confirmed caseload reached 3,63,17,927 and the active caseload touched 12,72,073, while the death toll climbed to 4,85,035 and the total recoveries reached 3,48,24,706.

India's active cases constitute 3.48% of the country's total Positive Cases.

Maharashtra today has 2,43,849 COVID-19 active cases, followed by West Bengal with 1,16,251 active cases, Karnataka 93,128 and Delhi with 87,445 active cases. Lakshwadeep has the lowest number of COVID-19 active cases with 15 cases as of Friday.

So far, 69.90 crore total tests have been conducted across the country, with 17,87,457 more tests conducted, while 155.39 crore vaccine doses have been administered under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive, the ministry added.

While testing capacity has been enhanced across the country, Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 11.83% and the Daily Positivity rate also reported to be 14.78%.
