India continued to witness downtrend in COVID-19 wave with the single-day positive count dropping to 71,365 in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday.
According to the latest updates, the country’s COVID-19 active caseload has dropped to 8,92,828. The number of active cases constitutes 2.11 per cent of the country's total positive cases.
The total COVID-19 confirmed cases in India reached 4,24,10,976, while the death toll mounted to 5,05,279 as 1,217 more people were reported dead.
A total of 1,72,211 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,10,12,869. Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 96.70 per cent.
With the administration of more than 53.61 lakh Covid vaccine doses (53,61,099) in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 170.87 Cr (1,70,87,06,705) as per provisional reports till 7 am on Wednesday.
The testing capacity across the country continues to be expanded. The last 24 hours saw a total of 15,71,726 tests being conducted. India has so far conducted over 74.46 Cr (74,46,84,750) cumulative tests.
While the testing capacity has been enhanced across the country, the weekly positivity rate in the country currently stands at 7.57 per cent and the daily positivity rate is reported to be 4.54 per cent.

According to the Health Ministry, nearly 169 crore (1,68,99,73,425) vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through Govt. of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category. And, more than 12.11 Cr (12,11,77,166) balance and unutilized COVID Vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered.
