Tamenglong district in Manipur is witnessing a rapid surge of COVID-19 positive cases after more than a month of zero positive cases with as many as 12 positive cases detected on Tuesday, as per the surveillance officer Tamenglong.
A 50-year-old lady also died of COVID-19 at Tamenglong district hospital on Tuesday.
After a month of zero COVID-19 positive cases from November 25, new positive cases surged from January 5 onwards and more cases were detected after polling personnel and election-related activities were conducted.
Meanwhile, chief medical officer Tamenglong Dr G Majachunglu told the Imphal Free Press that Tamenglong district has 66 COVID-19 active cases at present.
Of the total, 58 are under home isolation, four patients are at Covid care centres while another four are battling the disease at Covid isolation ward with one patient feeding oxygen.
She also informed that there is no report of Omicron cases in the district yet.
Dr G Majachunglu appealed to the citizens of Tamenglong to wear a mask whenever they go out from their homes and use sanitizers frequently.
She also urged not to organise or take part in big gatherings and follow the government guideline strictly.
The CMO fervently appealed to the people to get themselves tested for COVID-19 if anyone is suffering from breathing problems. Early detection and early intervention is the best way to save lives, she added.
