BSF opens Covid care centre at Baljek airport in West Garo Hills

The new covid care centre is expected to cater to troops arriving from other parts of the country for posting in Garo Hills.

The Border Security Force (BSF) in conjunction with the district administration of West Garo Hills in Meghalaya on Saturday inaugurated a brand new Covid care centre at the Baljek airport in the district.

The new covid care centre is expected to cater to troops arriving from other parts of the country for posting in Garo Hills.

“The state has been relatively free from infection from Coronavirus when it started in the country. With movement of people from other parts, new cases are emerging in the border state of Meghalaya. To arrest any further spread and contain it at a very initial stage the District Administration, West Garo Hills and BSF Tura are working in tandem to quarantine, isolate and test for COVID-19 of all the troops arriving from other states,” said a release by the BSF.

The press release added that to provide adequate medicare to Covid-19 patients, an initiative has been taken by BSF Tura under the direction of Kuldeep Saini, Inspector General, BSF, Meghalaya Frontier.

The new centre will have a capacity of 75 beds and will be run by medical officers and paramedical Staff from BSF.

The facility was opened by Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh for treatment of COVID patients of all BSF units deployed in the Garo Hills region.

The opening of the facility is expected to ease the pressure on the COVID Care Centre and Civil Hospital at Tura.

The facility was inspected by Dr Mukrang Terang, District Surveillance Officer and Dr Ivonne M Sangma, District Maternal & Child Health Officer cum Addl. District Surveillance Officer who expressed their satisfaction about the facilities and affirmed that this will go a long way in providing good care for early and fast recovery.

“This is the first ever facility created by BSF in Meghalaya State under the supervision of Surjit Singh, DIG BSF, SHQ Tura.

On the occasion, senior BSF officials including, J K Singh, Comdt, SHQ BSF Tura, K N Tripathi, Comdt and Dr S K Verma CMO(SG) were also present.
