Assam, Mizoram and Sikkim continued to report the maximum number of COVID-19 active cases among all eight states in the Northeast with a tally of 2838, 528 and 120 respectively as of Saturday, according to the latest update by the respective state Health Services.
The confirmed COVID-19 caseload in Assam reached 7,44,618, including 7,33,748 total recoveries and death toll of 8,032, highest in the NE region.
In Mizoram, the confirmed COVID-19 caseload touched 2,37,324, including 2,36,074 total recoveries and death toll of 722. Sikkim reported 43,765, including 43,155 total recoveries and 490 COVID-19 deaths as of Saturday.
Only Sikkim reported one death on Friday, whereas other states in NE reported no new COVID-19 deaths.
Meghalaya today has 87 COVID-19 active cases, Manipur 64, Arunachal Pradesh 59, Tripura 27 and Nagaland 21. Total number of cumulative COVID-19 positive cases climbed to 1,39,724 in Manipur on Friday.
Meanwhile India reported 7,219 new positive cases, taking the total confirmed caseload to 4,44,47,148. The total active tally is 54,167, which is 0.12 per cent of the total cases in the country. The death toll mounted to 5,27,965 as the disease claimed 33 more lives, while the total recoveries reached 4,38,65,016, with 9,651 new recoveries.
So far, the total number of sample tested as of September 2 is 88,68,31,141, while 2,13,01,07,236 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in the country.
