60 more die of COVID-19 in India, 21,880 test positive in 24 hours

India on Friday recorded as many as 60 COVID-19 deaths, pushing the death toll to 5,25, 930 while the country's COVID-19 tally surged to 4,38,47,065 with the addition of 21,880 new cases, according to the latest update by the Union Health Ministry.

The 60 COVID-19 fatalities include 22 from Kerala, seven from Chhattisgarh, six each from Maharashtra and West Bengal, three from Himachal Pradesh, two each from Manipur, Meghalaya, Assam and Gujarat, and one each from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Bihar, Goa and Nagaland.

A total of 4,95,359 COVID-19 tests were conducted in India in the last 24 hours. India has so far conducted 87,16,56,205 COVID-19 cases.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.42 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 4.51 per cent, as per the latest update.

The country also recorded 21,219 new recoveries in the last 24 hours, increasing the total number of recovered cases to 4,31,71,653. India's recovery rate currently stood at 98.46 per cent.

Consequently, India's COVID-19 active caseload stood at 1,49,482 as of Friday.

As many as 2,01,30,97,819, including 6,63,46,49 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, have been administered in India under the COVID-19 vaccination drive, according to the latest update.
