5,383 new COVID-19 cases detected in India

India recorded 20 more COVID-19 fatalities in 24 hours, taking the country's death toll to 5,28,449, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

India logged 5,383 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country's tally to 4,45,58,425, while the death toll surged to 5,28,449 with 20 more fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday. 

The number of active cases dropped to 45,281 from Thursday's 46,342. Active cases constitute 0.10 per cent of the country's total positive cases, the Health Ministry said.

India also recorded 6,424 new COVID-19 recoveries in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative number of recovered cases to 4,39,84,695 and the recovery rate is 98.71 per cent as on Thursday.

As many as 89,30,48,257 COVID-19 tests have so far been conducted in India, including 3,20,187 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, as per the Health Ministry.

While the weekly positivity rate in the country was recorded at 1.70 per cent, the daily positivity rate was reported to be 1.68 per cent, the ministry added.

Meanwhile, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has reached 2,17,26,27,951, including 20,07,66,145 precaution doses.
