Manipur: World Ozone Day observed

Eco Network Heirok president Sintha Laishram highlighted the importance of involving students in tree planting, water body cleanups, and other community services, believing these activities will inspire students to take action in protecting the planet.

As part of World Ozone Day, Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building, and Livelihood Programme (EIACP) Hub Manipur observed the occasion at Heirok Part II, Bamon Leikai Mipun Sang in Thoubal District on Tuesday, under the theme ‘Montreal Protocol: Advancing Climate Action.’

The event was held under the supervision of the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change.

Coordinator of EIACP Hub Manipur and Development Officer of the department, L Bijen, educationist and social motivator A Premananda Sharma, EBC Club Heirok Secretary Th Boboi, secretary of Planters Organisation for Save Environment Heirok, N Bijen, and Econetwork Heirok president Sintha Laishram, among others attended the event.

Speaking at the event, L Bijen discussed the effects of ozone depletion and pollution, stressing the importance of protecting the ozone layer by reducing plastic use, using bicycles and planting more trees. He described ozone as a precious gift from nature and urged everyone to work towards preserving it.

Guest faculty of Bio Technology department, Manipur University, Leimapokpam Tikendra, and Development Officer of DoE and CC Wetlands, Konthoujam Pushparani, participated as resource persons.
