Work from home rules for IT sector extended till December 31

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has extended the WFH norms in view of the rise of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on Tuesday extended connectivity norms for work from home (WFH) for IT and BPO companies till December 31, 2020.

This is the second time the connectivity norms for WFH for Other Service Providers (OSPs, including IT and IT-enabled services firms have been extended owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The DoT had extended relaxation in WFH rules till July 31 to contain the spread of coronavirus infection.

"DoT has further extended the relaxations in the terms and conditions for other service providers up to December 31, 2020 to facilitate work from home in view of the ongoing concern due to COVID-19,” the Department of Telecommunications tweeted on Tuesday night. 

Welcoming the move, Nasscom president Debjani Ghosh thanked the Telecom and IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and DoT and said the move will ensure business continuity and employees' safety.

"Thank u @rsprasad n Secretary @DoT_India for your strong support for Indian IT. This will ensure business continuity n employee safety.. n also increase our talent pool to tier 2 n 3 cities," Ghosh posted on Twitter.

"Thank you to the government for their tremendous support on the new ways of working from day 1.  This has helped tremendously in further elevating our standing and responsiveness globally," Chairman of Wipro Rishad Premji said in a tweet.
