With the launching of Green East E-Vehicles Company in Imphal West on Monday, the company, the first of its kind in the state, is all set to manufacture electric scooters in Manipur with the aim to export it to South East Asian countries and Northeast India and Kolkata.
The manufacturing unit will be supported by Aponyx company, which is one of the oldest companies in the electric vehicle segment which was manufacturing for a number of renowned brands.
Speaking during the launching function of the company at Canchipur in Imphal West, PWD Minister Govindas Konthoujam pointed out that the vehicles run by fossil fuels would sooner or later get phased out because of noise and air pollution and increasing fuel prices.
Hence, the future lies in eco-friendly electric vehicles which can be refuelled (charged) at every house, he said.
Pointing out that most of the goods exported to outside states and overseas are usually agro-industry based, he said that if the company succeeds in manufacturing electric scooters here and exporting to other places, it will be a landmark achievement for the state of Manipur.
Moreover, it will generate a great employment opportunity and generate tremendous revenue for the state, Govindas added.
In order to promote its products amongst the lower middle class and low-income groups, the company has drastically reduced the price of e-scooters and are giving a festival discount of up to Rs.10,000 so that it become affordable even for families belonging to low-income groups.
