The industrial and civil infrastructure of Assam has propelling effect on economic development of AtmaNirbhar Bharat, industry experts said on Tuesday in Guwahati. They also noted a huge paradigm shift in several sectors leading to food and socio-economic development of Northeast India as a region.
The Union Power Ministry stated in a release that experts from the Ministry of Power, Water Resources, Steel, Coal, Cement and Hydel Energy and allied sectoral industries along with academicians deliberated in a webinar on the market potential and its awareness from socio-economic, academic and policy perspective.
The webinar was organised by the Press Information Bureau, Guwahati on the topic 'Industrial and Civil Infrastructure - Dams, Hydel and Eco-friendly Power Projects - Potential Drivers and Engines of Growth and Development' in Guwahati Tuesday.
Central Government initiatives and its efficacy for public awareness
Dr PK Mukhopadhyay, Member Secretary, DVC HQ, Kolkata said that Energy Sector, Communication and Transport Sectors be it waterways, highways and railways are experiencing a huge paradigm shift leading to the social and economic development of Northeast India as a region. He said that dams in a region play a pivotal role in eco-friendly growth, water and energy development. He further said that additionally, it has an effect on the food and socio-economic development of a region.
Shibasis Basu, ED(Materials Management), SAIL-IISCO Steel Plant, Burnpur, Paschim Bardhamaan said that the power and energy sector initiative has tremendous potential for direct employment opportunities of youth. He said, in that endeavour, dams, green buildings and constructions and environment-friendly technologies have added to the efficacy of planning, construction, storage of water and utilisation of hydropower sector.
Satyabrata Banerjee, Chief Engineer Civil and HoD, DVC, Maithon said that initiatives of ‘Ease of Doing Business’, ‘Make in India’, ‘Startup India and Stand Up India’ is bringing a paradigm change in the tertiary and allied sectors. He said that optimal utilisation of hydro potential, with many rivers and water resources, has the potential for socio-economic development of Small and Medium Enterprises and industries of a region.

Taranjit Singh, MD, JIS Group said that the power and eco-friendly energy sector also adds to the potentiality of tourism, entrepreneurial opportunities and to leverage the efficacy of small and medium enterprises.
Saurav Chakrabarti, vice-president, Tata Teleservices said that growth of telecommunication and services sector is affected by the market potentiality and growth of the infrastructure and power sector, which has to be optimally managed.
Vital processes in the hospitality and tourism sector
JP Shaw, former Regional Director (East) for Indiatourism Kolkata, Ministry of Tourism said that in that endeavour of Industrial Growth and Development, tertiary and services sector have a pivotal role in the development of power and manufacturing sectors.
Provisos of the Constitution
Abdur Rahman Mallick, Advocate Delhi High Court said that building the hydel and power infrastructure which is nimble, supple and efficient is a WIN-WIN scenario for all in the value-added development of socio-economic development of the region.
Kishor Goswami, Professor of Economics in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Kharagpur said that economic growth and development is related to the potential of the power, energy and infrastructure of a region. He said that entrepreneurial opportunities are encouraged with a better business environment and development with Human Resources potential.
The informative and knowledge webinar was planned and coordinated by Samrat Bandyopadhyay, Joint Director (M&C), PIB, Guwahati. Senior officers of PIB were present in the webinar.
Barnali Mahanta, Information Assistant, PIB welcomed the experts as the webinar delved into details on the various aspects of the topic such as market potential, socio-economic, growth and development, among others.
The interactive webinar saw enthusiastic participation of students, academicians and industrial fraternity of Assam. Along with students, eminent journalists and other government senior officials from Doordarshan Guwahati, Regional Outreach Bureau, Guwahati, All India Radio Guwahati were also present at the occasion.
