‘Youths should get involved in preservation of rare art forms’

Former Upa Adhakshya, Imphal East Zilla Parisad, Top Naoria Kshetri Tama Devi on Friday stressed that the youths of Manipur should try to get involved in preservation and promotion of Manipuri cultural art forms which are dying out.

Former Upa Adhakshya, Imphal East Zilla Parisad, Top Naoria Kshetri Tama Devi on Friday stressed that the youths of Manipur should try to get involved in preservation and promotion of Manipuri cultural art forms which are dying out.

She was speaking as a chief guest during the presentation of ‘Khubak Eshei’ by Kongpal Nupee Ishei Marup at Pebam Mandap, Kongpal Kshetri Leikai, Imphal East.

The programme was organised under the aegis of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi. Tama said most of the artiste who have the knowledge of Khubak Eshei are getting old and most of the youths do not have proper knowledge of the said rare art form including other Manipuri cultural art forms.

She appealed to the society to encourage the youths to get involved in practicing the rare Manipuri cultural art forms as a campaign whether part time or full time. With the involvement in practicing the rare forms, the youths can be protected from intoxicants, drugs and other anti-social elements.

Tama appreciated the contributions of Kongpal Nupee Ishei Marup, Kongpal Chanam Leikai, Imphal East for organising such a programme in order to preserve and promote the rare Manipuri cultural art form.

Retired Guru JNMDA, Imphal, Akoijam Ibomcha Singh as guest of honour of the function said that it is high time such programmes to raise awareness on the importance of ‘Khubak Eshei’.

Senior advisor, Kongpal Nupee Ishei Marup, Imphal Khomdram Surendra Singh also attended the function as president.

As a part of the programme, artistes of the institution demonstrated ‘Khubak Eshei’ performed by women artistes and ‘Tanchap Pareng’ by young artistes.
