18th IAC Annual Art Exhibition kicks off

The 18th Imphal Art College Annual Art Exhibition will be held for five days at the college’s Hanjabam Shyamo Sharma Art Gallery.

Art and Culture commissioner M Joy on Thursday emphasised the specific importance of society, culture and people in promoting Manipuri artists and their artwork.

He was speaking at the inaugural function of the 18th Imphal Art College Annual Art Exhibition which will be held for five days at the college’s Hanjabam Shyamo Sharma Art Gallery.

The exhibition showcases around 150 various artworks by students of the college. The artworks include painting, applied arts, sculptures, digital art and many more.

The commissioner further stated that the exhibition showcases the talent and the budding artistic perspectives of the students.

“There are numerous artworks in the exhibition which are both creative and innovative,” he said.

He also added that the exhibition also showcased numerous conflict-centred artworks.

He stressed the need for teachers and mentors to properly guide and nourish the budding art students with proper skills and knowledge to cope with the changing landscape in the art space.

“Artists prefer to keep things to themselves and enjoy stillness in their environment. The exhibition reflects the hard work of the artists,” he said.

During the inaugural ceremony attendees paid floral tribute to the image of the founder principal of Imphal Art College Hanjabam Shyamo Sharma.

Out of the entire exhibition, 12 different artworks were also selected for various honours and awards.
