Singngat Model Residential School completes 60 pc construction: MLA Ginsuanhau

Singngat MLA and MTDC chairman, Ginsuanhau Zou inspected the school building.

The building of Singngat Model Residential School was inspected by Singngat MLA and MTDC chairman, Ginsuanhau Zou along with Manipur Infrastructure Development Agency officials led by chief engineer Dhanabir and contractor, M Thoibi on Wednesday.

During the inspection, the MLA said that construction works of the school building started in 2019 and it was supposed to be completed within 18 months but unfortunately, it took longer due to COVID-19 pandemic. He continued that more than Rs 25 crore has been sanctioned for construction of the residential school and 60 percent of the work has been completed.

The model residential school under Multi sectoral Development Programme (MsDP) funded by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India will accommodate 400 students (200 each for boys and girls), he added.

Ginsuanhau further said that Sumchinvum village under Singngat sub-division will soon have another residential school funded by Eklavya Model Residential School under the Ministry of Education. So far, he has managed to get funds for several projects in Singngat AC at the tune of Rs 100 crore.

The chief engineer said that the total cost of construction of the school building has been Rs 25.26 crore which included four hostels, dining and kitchen hall, academic block, staff quarters and others. He also said that the building cannot be completed in the stipulated 18 months due to COVID-19 and blockades that led to lack of supply of various technical requirements and manpower.
