Memorial stone in remembrance of Manipuri freedom fighters to be inaugurated on August 13

The memorial stone is being built alongside the Shaheed Minar in Imphal in remembrance of Manipuri freedom fighters who were martyred during exile at Kala Paani (Andaman and Nicobar).

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday said that a memorial stone is being built alongside the Shaheed Minar in Imphal in remembrance of Manipuri freedom fighters who were martyred during exile at Kala Paani (Andaman and Nicobar).

Taking to Twitter, the chief minister said that the memorial stone will be inaugurated on August 13.

"In remembrance of Manipuri freedom fighters who had martyred during exile, a memorial is being built alongside the Shaheed Minar. It was discovered that people from different communities of Manipur had been martyred in exile during the British rule. Memorial to be inaugurated on 13 Aug," CM Biren tweeted.

On Wednesday, the chief minister along with Minister Awangbow Newmai, Minister Lossi Dikho, Minister Th Satyabrata and officials inspected the ongoing construction of the memorial.

Informing that the names of the martyrs which will be inscribed on the memorial will be available at the Department of Art and Culture, CM Biren said that anyone who has information of unsung heroes who have been exiled and martyred or never returned to the state can also submit the information to the Department of Art and Culture.

On Tuesday, the chief minister also inspected the site for the proposed Manipur Olympians’ Park, a tourist site at Sangaithel in honour of Olympians from the state which will showcase their life stories.

The park will have the statues of Olympians from Manipur. It will also have enough space to accommodate future Olympians, CM Biren said.
