The Shillong Manipuri Students Union (SMSU) on Thursday sought immediate intervention of the Manipur government in regard to the dilapidated conditions of Rajbari, Manipur House in Shillong.
“While other states such as Tripura, Nagaland and Assam have properly maintained their respective state houses in Shillong, Rajbari is in such a deteriorating condition that unless the state government takes prompt measures, it will fade into obscurity,” said SMSU president Chongtham Thongamba Meetei.
The SMSU had earlier submitted a seven-point memorandum to the government of Manipur in regard to the conditions of Rajbari but there has been no response till date, Thongamba said, adding an appeal to the state government for prompt actions to protect and restore the historical place.
The president of SMSU further said that he hopes the CM of Manipur will hear the appeal and restore Rajbari into a historical museum and a place of tourist interest.
Chief advisor of Ningol Chakkouba, Shillong Athouba Koijam also appealed to the CM of Manipur for the restoration of the Manipur House at Shillong. “Manipuris residing in Shillong face difficulties in observing state-specific occasions such as Patriot’s Day or Ningol Chakkouba,” he said while urging the CM to ensure that the Manipur House is properly restored and well maintained.
