The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed in many parts of the state on Friday. Public awareness rallies and distribution of pamphlets and other programmes to enlighten the public about the menace of drug use were the main highlights of the observation.
The youths of Parengtong Village, under Machi Block, Tengnoupal district observed the event by conducting a mass tree sapling plantation programme at the village on Friday. The event was conducted under the guidance and leadership of youth secretary of Parengtong Village D. Motang Maring.
D.Motang stated that the youths of Parengtong Village unanimously agreed to observe the event. He expressed gratitude to village elders for extending help in planting the tree saplings. The youths are now keeping aim to perform such commendable tasks in the future, he added.
On the Other hand,Thoubal District Police with the public of Thoubal led by SP Thoubal S Ibomcha organised a rally in connection with International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking under the theme ‘Better Knowledge for better life on Friday. The rally started from Thoubal Wangmataba and finished at Thoubal Police Station.
Our Moreh correspondent has added that the Moreh Battalion Assam Rifles (AR) organised lecture on the day and felicitated HSLC exam toppers of Moreh town.
Speaking at the function, CO 43 AR, Colonel Sumit Sood said that the COVID-19 pandemic and its fallout caused many hardships to people, but kids and youngsters should not change the focus from effective study by becoming carriers of contraband drugs which will ultimately spoil their lives.
Requesting the youths not to fall in the trap of drug kingpins he said while they are sitting comfortably in their places innocent youngsters who fall in the trap go behind the bars, that too just for a few bucks.
Besides CO 43 AR, Col Sumit Sood, ICP manager Robin Gangte, 43 AR major Ankit Sharma, SDC Moreh Brojendro, and leaders of Moreh Youth Club were present in the programme.
Meanwhile, troops of STC BSF Churachandpur organised an awareness campaign at an orphanage home, Hope Children Home, located at Dorcas Veng, Churachandpur as a part of the occasion,said a release. Assistant commandant T Douminlian, delivered talks on drug abuse and its harmful effects on human life and he also talked about career guidance as well as motivational speech to the children, it said.
Owner of the orphanage home, Pu L Velson expressed his heartfelt gratitude to STC BSF Churachandpur for organising the event, it added.
Meanwhile, Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Friday on the theme of ‘Illicit drug: the dark future of youth’ at their office.
A release stated that the program was carried out with Leishangthem Lamyanba as the host. HOD, department of Psychiatry, RIMS, RK Lenin and former secretary of AMADA, N Bobo attended as resource persons, it stated.
The IGP Manipur and Nagaland sector, CRPF, Langjing also observed the day, said a release. The programme started with an e-speech by DGP CRPF, AP Maheshwari, in which she brought out the evils of substance abuse and drug trafficking, it said. Many intellectuals and subject experts including doctors, professors, police officers and people working in various NGOs on the subject took part in the function and shared their views on the occasion, it said. Padmashree awardee and retired guru of JN Manipur Dance Academy E Indira Devi was also honoured during the observation, it added.
Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Imphal west branch organised a voluntary blood donation camp in collaboration with IRSC Imphal East branch at the department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS as a part of the observation. 44 units of blood were donated by the volunteers, said a release. Similarly, the Red Cross volunteers of Imphal West district branch donated 12 units of blood in coordination of AVBD, Manipur and RIMS blood Donor Community at RIMS on Thursday, it added.
Altogether, 56 units of blood have been donated by the Red Cross volunteers during the last two days and a total of 185 units of blood during the lockdown, it stated.
