COWIN verifier remanded to judicial custody

Thoubal police had arrested Md Rafique Ali on July 7 on charges of issuing Covid vaccination certificates to four unvaccinated persons during a mass vaccination programme held at the community hall of Thoubal Awang Leikai on July 5.

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Thoubal in an online court sitting on Tuesday remanded a COWIN verifier to judicial custody for allegedly issuing Covid vaccination certificates to unvaccinated persons. 

The COWIN verifier Md Rafique Ali, son of Md Ahmed Ali, resident of Thoubal Moijing Lamkhai, who is also a primary teacher at Moijing High School was remanded to judicial custody in connection with 16 different cases under IPC filed by Thoubal police against him.

Thoubal police had arrested Md Rafique Ali on July 7 on charges of issuing Covid vaccination certificates to four unvaccinated persons during a mass vaccination programme held at the community hall of Thoubal Awang Leikai on July 5. Following a decision by the court of CJM, Thoubal on July 8, he had been lodged in the lock-up of Thoubal Police station under police custodial remand.
