205 Delta Variant cases confirmed in Manipur

Manipur saw another record high of 911 new COVID-19 positive cases on Sunday.

As many as 205 cases of  Delta Variant of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Manipur, even as the state continues to witness an increase in daily COVID-19 cases and deaths due to coronavirus disease.

According to the latest updates from the state health department, a total of 205 nasopharyngeal swabs collected from different parts of the state have been confirmed as Delta Variant positive.

On Sunday, Manipur saw another record high of 911 new COVID-19 positive cases, while 14 more persons died due to the disease, pushing the state's COVID-19 positive caseload and death toll to 77,731 and 1,272 respectively, a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

A total of 6,320 test results were received on Sunday, of which 911 were found positive for COVID-19. The cumulative number of test results received so far is 9,55,967, the state health department said.

Of the new COVID-19 cases, 269 were from Imphal West, 207 from Imphal East, 140 from Bishnupur, 84 from Thoubal, 83 from Churachandpur, 63 from Kakching, 14 from Kangpokpi, 10 from Chandel, eight from Ukhrul, six each from Tamenglong and Senapati, three from Pherzawl, and two each from Tengnoupal and Jiribam. The other 14 new COVID-19 positive cases are from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), the release stated.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, it stated.

While Bishnupur reported four deaths each, Imphal West, Imphal East and Tengnoupal reported two deaths each. On death each was reported from Churachandpur, Kakching and Thoubal, as per the release.

The state also recorded 570 new recoveries in a span of 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of recovered cases to 69,224. The recovery rate stands at 89.05 per cent and the number of COVID-19 active cases in Manipur is 7,235, as of Sunday.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,982 D-type oxygen cylinders and 424 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities of the state in the last 24 hours, the release stated.

As per the latest updates, the cumulative number of doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in Manipur reached 8,71,470 (First dose: 7,77,202 and second dose: 94,268).
