Manipur logs 643 new COVID-19 cases; tally crosses 72000-mark

COVID-19 claimed eight more lives in Manipur in 24 hours period.

Manipur's COVID-19 caseload on Sunday crossed the 72000-mark after 643 new COVID-19 cases were reported in a span of 24 hours, while the death toll surged to 1,196, official sources said.

With the new positive cases, the state's COVID-19 tally reached 72,286, including 6,159 active cases. 

As many as 242 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from Imphal West alone. The other new positive cases include 145 from Imphal East, 76 from Thoubal, 65 from Churachandpur, 58 from Bishnupur, 15 from Chandel, 13 from Kangpokpi, 10 from Kakching, six from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), five from Ukhrul, and two each from Senapati, Tamenglong, Tengnoupal and Jiribam, the release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

Of the COVID-19 fatalities, two deaths each were from Imphal East, Imphal West and Churachandpur, while Bishnupur and Tengnoupal recorded one death each, the release stated.

With 602 new recoveries, the cumulative number of COVID-19 recovered cases in Manipur reached 64,931 and recovery rate stands at 89.82 per cent, as per the release.

Meanwhile, a total of 2,104 D-type oxygen cylinders and 361 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities of the state in the last 24 hours, it stated.

The cumulative number of doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in Manipur is 7,29,061, including 6,43,311 first dose and 85,750 second dose, the release added.
