Poster campaigns build up for five Olympians from Manipur in Tokyo Olympics

The Manipur government had announced a cash reward of Rs 1.2 crore to gold medal winners, Rs 1 crore for silver medal winners and Rs 75 lakh for bronze medal winners at the Tokyo Olympics from the state.

Poster campaigns for a successful performance by the five state native who will compete in Tokyo Olympic Games 2020-21 are in full swing in near and far flung areas of the state in a controlled manner amidst COVID-19 pandemic.

The state government had already announced a cash reward of Rs 1.2 crore to gold medal winners, Rs 1 crore for silver medal winners and Rs 75 lakh for bronze medal winners at the Tokyo Olympics from the state.

The Coaches Association of Youth Affairs and Sports Manipur (CAYASM) had also come out with their blessing with a poster campaign at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Speaking on behalf of the CAYASM, L Meghabarna, who is president of the association said, “we are indeed happy that five of our sportspersons, boxer MC Mary Kom, weightlifter S Mirabai Chanu, judokas L Shusila Devi, hockey players Sushila Chanu Pukrambam and Sh Nilakanta Sharma have made it to the Olympic squad. Our happiness lies in their success and we have nothing to offer at this hour except our blessing and good wishes for stupendous performance from them. Let them come home with a medal each.”

Weightlifting coach L Anita Chanu, Judo coach M Deben and N Ranjita were among the few coaches who represented the association during the poster campaign.

The Manipur Olympic Association along with state government and Indian Olympic Association also put up huge poster banners at Khuman Lampak entrance and crossing roads, hailing and cheering the five state athletes for scintillating performances in the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020-21.

Several local organisations have also come up with their prayer ceremony and moral support.
