Meghalaya police warn against misinformation on COVID-19 vaccination

The Meghalaya police has warned citizens against spreading misinformation about the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination drive while adding that stern action will be taken against those indulging in such activity.

“If any person, organisation is found committing such an act, legal action will be taken against them as per law,” East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

He said that the Meghalaya High Court had earlier passed an order in this regard on June 23 and the general public is advised not to spread any misinformation regarding vaccination through any medium.

"In the event, there is any attempt made by any person, organisation to spread misinformation regarding the efficacy of vaccination amongst the people of this state, the concerned authority of the state will immediately step in and proceed against such person, organization in accordance with the law. The concerned authority of the state shall also bring such instances to the notice of this court," the order read.
