UNM-M Women Committee demands action

The committee strongly condemned the victimisation and discrimination to women and girls, and appeals to the governor and chief secretary, government of Manipur to kindly take up urgent attention and action in regard to the recent crimes against women and girls, stated a release.

The Women Committee of the United Ngo’s Mission Manipur, UNM-M on Friday stated that it is shocked over the suspicious death of one Arambam Ongbi Angoubi of Top Awang Leikai, Imphal East.

The committee strongly condemned the victimisation and discrimination to women and girls, and appeals to the governor and chief secretary, government of Manipur to kindly take up urgent attention and action in regard to the recent crimes against women and girls, stated a release.

According to reliable sources, Angoubi, around 73 years of age, wife of Arambam Jugindro, resident of Top Awang Mamang Leikai, Porompat Police Station, Imphal East district went missing since Tuesday midnight and was found at a canal on the early morning of Wednesday few kilometres away from her residence.

According to sources, she was found fractured on her left hand due to an injury. Unfortunately, Angoubi was found hanging on her bed on Thursday afternoon, it stated.

Women Committee, UNM-M has serious concerns about the situation of women and children of our state and the measures taken up by the state government at this critical juncture of COVID-19 and its impact on women and children in particular and public in general, it stated.

It is very alarming that day by day, crime against women and children occurring in the state and many crimes goes unreported, the release stated.

“We have the records and documents. Some of the recent incidents of crime against women and minor girls during the short period of time which need serious attention,” it stated.
