District magistrate/DC Kangpokpi Somorjit Salam on Friday extended lockdown and curfew in the district for another 14 days with limited permitted activities.
His orders stated that the threat of the pandemic and the possibility of widespread infection still exist in the district, and there are suitable restrictions that need to be put in place for public safety.
All departments and institutions like media, power, fire services, PHED, CAFPD, Police, Health, Relief and DM and district administration are permitted to function while vehicle workshops of goods trucks, petrol tankers, LPG bullet, etc. may open from 8.00 am to 3.00 pm on all days by taking adequate precaution and following necessary protocols, it stated.
Shops selling essential items can open from 7.00 am to 1.00 pm every alternate day, and they should have fortnightly COVID-19 free certificates from the medical officer, essential items in charge in the area, it mentioned.
Earlier, in the previous curfew and lockdown, essential items shops were allowed to open only from 7.00 am to 10.00 am.
Pharmacies may open regularly as usual with fortnightly COVID-19 free certificates from the concerned Medical Officer of the area.
Banking services with limited staff and petrol pumps to remain open.
With 15 new positive cases detected in the last 24 hours, the COVID-19 active case in the district climbed to 138 and the fatality of COVID-19 reached 37.
Meanwhile, considering the low percentage of vaccination in the district, MLA of Kangpokpi assembly constituency Nemcha Kipgen directed the seven Covid task force of her assembly constituency to intensify and organise extensive mass awareness among the public for vaccination.
The medical department, considering the surge of infection since the past few weeks, intensified contact tracing and mass testing at various places in the district.
Mass screening/testing was conducted on Friday at Toribari by the medical team led by Dr Sanjeep and Dr Mary Jone where more than 130 individuals were tested and fortunately all were found negative.
Medical superintendent district Hospital Kangpokpi Dr Paotinlal Haokip conveyed gratitude to the Village Authority of Toribari, and all those who have rendered cooperation and all possible help in the mass screening.
