Complaint against Dy CM’s private secretary Over NREGS funds

It is high time to eliminate the root cause of such corrupt practices on public money by the accused private secretary and put an end to it, stated the complaint signed by ward members of several Gram Panchayats..

In connection with the allegation against deputy chief minister's private secretary Thongam Shanti Singh of demanding a percentage of funds as commission for releasing state and NREGS money to the localities of Gram Panchayats, a complaint was lodged to superintendent of Police (Vigilance) on Monday to register an FIR for investigation into the matter.  

The complaint signed by ward members of several Gram Panchayats appealed to the chief minister and DGP Manipur to take immediate action regarding the incident.

The complaint drew the attention of superintendent of Police (Vigilance) regarding the news reports which stated that pradhan of Moirang Kampu L Rameshor made a complaint regarding the incident on April 22.  The people of the state heard and saw what the accused Pradhan said through local TV channels, it further stated, adding that many local dailies also reported the scandal.

It is also known by all that the said private secretary demanded three per cent as commission from many contractors, sub-contractors, persons including heads of departments for releasing funds, CDAs etc., to various departments of the government of Manipur, the complaint stated.

It stated that it is high time to eliminate the root cause of such corrupt practices on public money by the accused private secretary and put an end to it.

The complaint further pointed out that there was also a 48-hour, statewide total shut-down imposed by members of GPs and ZPs and the people of the state against the said corruption.

The ward members requested to register an FIR and investigate into the matter so that necessary legal action can be undertaken against the said private secretary under Prevention of Corruption Act and IPC.

The complaint also requested the police to take statements of the individuals concerned immediately. It further stated that due to Covid situation, the ward members could not file the complaint earlier.
