The Lanva river which once served as a lifeline for Churachandpur by providing drinking water has been hugely encroached upon, and many people started making their livelihood by quarrying sand and stones. Their activity has led to flooding on many occasions in the past during heavy rainfall.

The district administration had also issued orders prohibiting the quarrying of stones and sands, for which the police are also doing their parts but to no avail. Therefore, the sealing of the passage by the said two village authorities have become the last option.
