Two counselling centres for Covid-19 patients set up at the District Hospital Churachandpur and GNM hostel campus respectively by 'We Care', an NGO providing mental health services in Churachandpur were inaugurated on Tuesday.
The counselling centres were inaugurated by the medical superintendent of district hospital Dr T Vanlalkungi and chief medical officer of Churachandpur Dr Vumchinpau Tonsing respectively.
Interestingly, the counselling centres were built on the traditional, tribal architecture with roofing and bamboo embroidered walls so that the patients may have a home feeling.

The huts have partitions where the patients and psychiatrist or counsellors can converse without being disturbed or the fear of COVID-19 transmission. The huts are the brainchild of 'We Care' which had signed an MOU with the CMO for their efforts in Churachandpur.
There have been many instances where patient's health deteriorated after becoming aware that they have contracted the virus. Considering that a patient’s mental health condition affects the physical response to the disease, this has prompted the 'We Care ' to start psychiatric treatment to help them and minimise their anxiety.
The facilitator of the counselling centre will place two counsellors or psychiatrists at the GNM campus where maximum tests are being done and at the district hospital campus where patients who come to avail OPD service and having symptoms are tested.
Meanwhile, Churachandpur has witnessed another 42 new cases and two deaths in the last 24 hours.
