Imphal West deputy commissioner Th Kirankumar on Thursday requested for reference from the director of Health Services for an aggressive mass testing for COVID-19 in the district.

A proposal for aggressive mass testing in Imphal West district in consultation with health officials has been submitted to the government, stated a statement addressed to the director of Health Services.

Under the said proposal, the district is planning to mobilise around 45 testing teams constituted by the existing as well as augmentation by new team members, it stated.  A team shall consist of three members, two trained nurses and one MTS/Lab Technician, it mentioned.

“For this, under normal procedures notification and selection process is required and would further delay the initiation of this time bound exercise to contain the spread of the virus,” it stated.

Considering the recent recruitments process taken up by the office of director of Health Services, the DC requested the director, in order to avoid delay in selection of nurses and MTS/ lab technicians, to furnish the names of non-selected candidates for contract nurses and MTS/lab technician, who were not even in waiting list, with their addresses and contact numbers in the recently conducted recruitment examination so that initiative for aggressive mass testing can be initiated on schedule.

The statement further appealed to the director of Health Services to treat the subject as urgent and time bound.
