Meanwhile, the inauguration of the help desk at Nongpok Sekmai PHC in Thoubal district was led by state secretary in charge, Manipur Pradesh Kisan Morcha Kh Basanta. People who had come for vaccinations to the PHC were presented with facemasks, food items and drinking water amongst others while maintaining SOPs.

Speaking on the occasion, Kh Basanta said that during the first phase of COVID-19 vaccinations, more than 17 crore people in the country were vaccinated including PM Narendra Modi and other public leaders.

In the context of Manipur, CM N Biren along with other ministers and MLAs have also received COVID-19 vaccinations, he said, adding that under the leadership of late S Tikendra, BJP Manipur Pradesh has also helped several others to receive vaccinations.

Basanta also accused other political parties in the opposition of spreading false information about the COVID-19 vaccines by taking advantage of the few deaths that occurred after getting vaccinated. The rumours and false information not only cause apprehension amongst people who have not been vaccinated yet but also indirectly helped the spread of the virus and increasing the number of infections and deaths, he added.

Receiving the COVID-19 vaccine does not make people immune to other diseases but it helps boost the immune system, thereby decreasing the chances of COVID-19 infections, he said. He also made a public appeal for people to come forward and get themselves vaccinated. “Let us also make it our duty to spread awareness amongst our near and dear ones and help them get vaccinated,” Basanta said.

Today’s inaugural event also witnessed the attendance general secretary of BJP Kisan Morcha Manipur Pradesh L Meghachandra; president BJYM Thoubal district Th Jiten; councilor, Ward No III Shikhong Sekmai Municipal Council, Chandramani and councilor, Ward No IX Md Tolen.
