Manipur logs 560 new COVID-19 positive cases, 10 more deaths

The number of COVID-19 active cases in Manipur surged to 5,569 on Thursday.

Manipur on Thursday recorded 560 new COVID-19 positive cases, pushing the state's caseload to 37,596 while the death toll reached 536 with 10 more fatalities, according to the latest update from the state health department.

The new positive cases included 555 persons from the general population and five personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

Among the new COVID-19 positive cases from the general population, the highest number of new cases were reported from Imphal West with 262, followed by Imphal East with 120 and Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts with 45 cases each. Twenty one new cases were reported from Thoubal, 17 from Kakching, 12 from Kangpokpi, nine each from Ukhrul and Chandel, five from Tamenglong, four from Tengnoupal, three from Kamjong, two from Senapati and one from Jiribam, the release stated.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, it stated.

As per the release, of the 10 fatalities recorded on Thursday, five were reported from Imphal East district, three from Imphal West, and one each from Jiribam and Ukhrul.

The number of COVID-19 active cases in the state surged to 5,569 while the cumulative number of recovered cases is 31,491 leaving the recovery rate at 83.76 per cent, the release stated.

It further stated that air passengers who travelled to the state on May 12,2021 by Air India flight AI-713 in rows 17-23, on May 10, 2021 by Air India flight AI-713 in rows 10-16 and on May 3, 2021 by 6E-6034 in rows 24-30 and 6E-2615 in rows 26-31 are to inform the Common Covid Control Room at 1800-345-3818 or respective District Surveillance officers (DSO) for further surveillance and necessary testing.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,213 D type oxygen cylinders and 447 B type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of the state, the release stated.

The cumulative number of people who have been administered COVID-19 vaccine in the state reached 2,91.12, the release added.
