The All Manipur Tribal Union Tamenglong Zone on Wednesday appealed to the chief minister to cancel or revoke the transfer and posting order of Manipur Health Service (MHS) officers in the interest of general public of Tamenglong district.

The transfer and posting order dated May 2, 2021, issued in the name of the governor by deputy secretary of state Health and Family Welfare Soiminlian Lengen, at such critical situation is condemnable as the state is reeling under the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, All Manipur Tribal Union Tamenglong Zone Chief Coordinator Canaan Panmei said in a statement.

The order included the transfer of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Tamenglong, Dr Chambo Gonmei, who is the only responsible and dynamic, experienced doctor who has been taking care of the responsibilities of serving the people of Tamenglong in the lone District Hospital, the All Manipur Tribal Union Tamenglong Zone stated.

Therefore, we fervently request the chief minister to cancel or revoke the transfer and posting order of the MHS officers in the larger interest of the general public of the district, Panmei added.

Meanwhile, terming the transfer and posting order that was served against Dr Chambo Gonmei, CMO, Tamenglong, untimely, the Dailong Students Union stated that the District Hospital, Tamenglong should not be left "without a full-fledged Chief Medical Officer during the Covid-19 pandemic by transferring the existing full-fledged CMO to work under another CMO as Senior Specialist in another district,

For the past several years, District Hospital, Tamenglong has been facing shortage of medical doctors and staffs, and it is unthinkable that the concerned authority is further reducing the number of doctors from Tamenglong district from its already meagre numbers of manpower, the union stated in the release.

“Is the state government giving us a step motherly treatment? Our state is overwhelmed by Covid-19 second wave positive cases which are still on the rise; Tamenglong district is no exception to this fact and the district needs an experienced officer to lead the medical department of the district during this pandemic time,” the union said.

“Under the good leadership of Dr Chambo Gonmei, Chief Medical Officer, Tamenglong, the people of Tamenglong district had overcome the fight against Covid-19 when it first hit the district the previous year.

Pointing out that the severity and intensity of the second wave of Covid-19, the DSU stressed the need of an experienced Chief Medical Officer and more manpower in the district

"We urge the state government and concerned authorities to roll back the transfer and posting order of Dr Chambo Gonmei in the best interest of the people of Tamenglong district,” the Dailong Students’ Union added.
