Loumee Shinmee Apunba Lup (LOUSAL) on Sunday raised strong condemnations against the Manipur government for appointing an MCS officer as a director of department of agriculture and appealed to revoke the appointment order.
Manipur being one of the states where agriculture is the mainstay, the agriculture department takes a highly important role, stated a release issued by LOUSAL, general secretary Laishram Kiranjit. Considering the importance of the department, appointing an MCS officer as its director instead of someone with technical knowledge of agriculture has been very unfortunate, it stated. Experts are required for making improvements and advancements in the field of agriculture as it would not be possible to achieve them without scientific approaches. For this, many colleges and universities are being set up to do research and studies on agriculture and its allied sectors, it added.
Meanwhile, the government has been shouting to increase farmers' income by double. But it is yet to be answered how the state will achieve these goals without having a well deserving leader in the department, the release stated.
Sidelining the research scholars or scientists who are well trained in the agricultural sector and appointing an MCS officer proves that the present government has a double standard in these matters, LOUSAL stated.
The state government should keep politics away while appointing the director of the agriculture department and keep politics away from its allied sectors such as agriculture, veterinary, sericulture and fisheries, it stated, appealing to revoke the appointment order.
LOUSAL also assured to extend solidarity in the protests launched by the staff of the agriculture department in connection with their demand to revoke the appointment order.
