The Manipur government on Thursday declared the entire greater Imphal area as containment zone for seven days with immediate effect after 314 new COVID-19 cases and five more COVID related deaths were reported.
An order to this effect was issued by the state Home department outlining permitted activities in the containment area.
The activities permitted during this period are movement of goods vehicles, including vehicles carrying oxygen/oxygen cylinders; all healthcare facilities including animal healthcare, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and movement of healthcare workers, stated the order.
It mentioned pharmacies including those selling veterinary medicines are permitted. All persons going COVID-19 vaccination, Covid testing and medical emergencies are also permitted, it stated. It permitted all employees in Home, Health, Relief and DM, Police departments and district administration while mentioning that all other offices in the Greater Imphal Area are to remain closed.
It permitted all personnel deployed for providing essential services like drinking water, power, fire fighting, waste/garbage collection, ATM services.
It stated that all vegetable, fish/meat vendors (except in Ima keithel), milk booths will be permitted from 6 am to 10 am while maintaining physical distance. All local grocery stores including animal feed shops for purchase by locals form 6 am to 10 am are permitted, it stated.
Wholesale shops in Imphal may open at the rate of one in three shops on rotation from 6 am to 10 am, it mentioned, adding petrol pumps will remain open as usual, while ensuring there is no crowding. All establishments and personnel related to electronic and print media, telecom services providers are permitted, it stated. Imphal airports shall remain open and movement of staff and passengers will be permitted, it added.
Hostels for lodging will be allowed to remain open with minimum staff, it further stated, adding restaurants are to be closed. Food delivery services providers and delivery services are permitted. Deputy commissioners of Imphal West and Imphal East and superintendent of Police of Imphal West and Imphal East shall take necessary action to implement the orders, it added. Of the total positive cases reported on Thursday, 296 are from the general population and 18 from central armed paramilitary forces, pushing the total tally to 31,315 while the total Covid-related death toll stood at 400.
On Wednesday the state reported as many as 259 COVID-19 positive cases and two Covid-19 related deaths.
