Manipur's COVID-19 caseload crosses 31000-mark as new daily positive cases surge to record 259

Wednesday recorded the highest single-day new COVID-19 positive cases in 2021 and two more deaths in Manipur.

COVID-19 positive cases soared to 31,001 on Wednesday in Manipur with a record single-day new positive cases of 259, while the death toll moved up to 395 with two more deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the state health department. Tuesday reported 175 positive cases and three deaths.

The new positive cases included seven personnel of the Central Armed Police Force, stated the daily 5 pm release from the Common COVID-19 Control Room Wednesday.

Three districts - Imphal West, Imphal East and Churachandpur - continued to report the highest new COVID-19 positive cases at 94, 76 and 27 respectively, as per the latest update by the health department.

Twenty new COVID-19 cases are from Bishnupur, 11 from Thoubal, seven from Kakching, six from Senapati, four from Ukhrul, three from Kangpokpi, two from Chandel and one each from Tengnoupal and Jiribam, the release stated.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional director and spokesperson, Manipur Health Department, stated in the release.   

With the new COVID-19 positive cases, the number of COVID-19 active cases also increased to 1,230 while the cumulative number of COVID-19 recovered cases in the state reached 29,376 with 59 new recovered cases. The state's COVID-19 recovery rate fell to 94.75 per cent from 95.36 per cent, it added.

Meanwhile, air passengers who travelled to the state on April 25 by Indigo flights 6E-6181 in rows 16-21 and 6E-21 in rows 29-35 have been asked to inform the Common Covid Control Room at 18003453818 or respective District Surveillance Officers (DSO) immediately.

The latest COVID-19 victims in Manipur were a 76-year-old man from Imphal East and a 52-year-old man from Imphal West who died at JNIMS and RIMS hospital respectively, the release stated.

As per the latest updates, the cumulative number of people who have been vaccinated in the state reached 1,47,012.

All persons above 45 years are advised to get vaccinated immediately at vaccine centres of RIMS, JNIMS, District hospitals, CHCs, PHCs and select private hospitals, the release added.
