Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases in Manipur, state chief secretary Rajesh Kumar and Education director Laishram Nandakumar Singh have tested positive for the disease, health department sources said on Monday.
The chief secretary's health is now in stable condition and is bring provided required treatment at his official residence in Imphal by doctors of JNIMS, said health director K Rajo.
On Sunday, the chief secretary was reportedly in a "critical" condition and likely to be airlifted on Monday.
The education director is being treated at JNIMS COVID Ward, the sources added.
Meanwhile, new cases of COVID-19 positive in Manipur surged to 72 on Sunday. Imphal West reported maximum new positive cases at 21. The cumulative number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the state reached 290,721, including 255 active cases on Sunday, according to the state health department.
