The Election Commission of India (ECI) has recently given cognizance to the four office bearers of Manipur People's Party (MPP) who were elected recently. The duration of their term as per the ECI is from February 11, 2020 till February 10, 2023.

The four office bearers are interim president Laishram Krishnadash, working president Mayengbam Amutombi, general secretary (admin) Haobijam Gitajen and treasurer Ningombam Meghachandra.

A letter from ECI under secretary to the MPP stated that the tenure and election of the officer bearers are subject to the condition that the political party does not re-elect the whole executive body or any member of the office bearer.

It also mentioned that there should neither be any internal dispute nor any case should be filed by anyone for the above mentioned post.

Further, the letter informed that any of the authorised persons from the list of office bearers will be eligible for seeking a common symbol in any general election to the Legislative Assembly, provided they fulfill the criteria required for allotment of the common symbol.

Speaking to the media on Thursday at the MPP head office in Imphal, its interim president L Krishnadash declared that the old format of letterhead and receipt book of MPP will no longer be valid.

The MPP was founded on December 26, 1968 by a group of dissidents from the Indian National Congress.
